150 nuorta kansalaisaktivistia "jälleenrakensi" symbolisesti Libanonin lipuista Shatillan sillan.

Yesterday at 8:00 AM was the beginning of ceasefire. Wondering while the car descended the deserted streets of our mountain village towards the coastal way if that was true.  All the way we were asking the few cars we met if that was the right way towards Beirut that used to be overcrowded with cars heading towards the capital. On reaching the coastal road we recognized the reality that made our hearts beat fast as we saw the unbelievable lines of cars packed with women, children, elderly and young. I say packed because those cars were carrying more people than one can imagine and on top their belongings that they received from the relief operations…they were heading back HOME to the South, hundreds or maybe thousands of cars different shapes and different sizes with their human cargo, people anxious to reach HOME, whether this home is still standing or destroyed, but nevertheless, the real home is their land that can never be demolished and is ready to receive them any time with open arms in their life as in their death.

Upon reaching the town of Damour we started seeing the barbaric destruction met by the first destroyed bridge, due to that we had to take a small turn to reach the tiny road inside the town with other hundreds of cars those who were heading towards the south and those targeting Beirut. It took us one hour and half to cross a road that doesn't need more than five minutes, to reach the other part of the high way. Added to the incredible number of cars, were many cars who got overheated or were out of petrol… never mind everybody was helping everybody, pushing cars aside or pouring water over heated engines, or offering some petrol, everyone was celebrating those exciting moments through different ways. Patiently waiting for our turn we finally saw the highway…you cannot imagine the scene… for about 3 kilometres or more along six lanes cars were waiting for their turn to pass in astonishing silence except for where are you going? Are the roads still reachable? Except for exchanging such information silence was around maybe out of respect and awe in front of such historical moments. Again it occurred to my mind the Trail of Tears but this time they were tears of joy for returning home. Dear God do we have always to cry in sad and happy moments?  Will the Palestinians one day be able to take the Trail of Tears back HOME? Is the road towards that Trail still very long? I tell you; it is not far away from this point, just less than one hour and the people will be back into their villages and towns…. less than one hour and they can be back HOME.

However, in spite of this back HOME, will this ceasefire realize into a sustainable one? We have to wait and see.

Vaikka autosumat olivat ennennäkemättömät, polttoainepula on suuri.

Lisäksi kaksi Maailman elintarvikeohjelman vuokraamaa alusta, jotka olivat odottaneet telakalla Beirutissa 13.8. lähtien, olivat lähdössä kohti Souria lastattuina ensiaputarvikkeilla humanitaarisia toimijoita varten.Tiistaina oli ohjelmassa avustussaattue Rmeishin kylään, jonne asukkaat ja pakolaiset olivat jääneet loukkuun pommitusten vuoksi.
